Happy Memorial Day??
Memorial Day is celebrated around the world under different labels and on different days. You may call it Poppy Day, Armistice Day, Volkstrauertag, Remembrance Sunday, ANZAC Day, or something else. But, whatever the label, it's a day to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives so that we could enjoy freedom.
And this got me thinking; why do we say happy Memorial Day? Would it not be better to remind people to be grateful for all our freedoms? I know Grateful Memorial Day or Thankful Memorial Day don't have quite the same ring...but I think they're far more respectful to those who died that we may be free.
Thus, I wish you all a Grateful Memorial Day lest we forget how truly fortunate we are.
Freedom comes with a price
and the least we can do
is remember!

Quite true. The reason we have the day is not one that often brings happy memories back to us. A thankful day does seem more appropriate.
I'm so glad you commented, Amanda because I was thinking it was just me who found it odd to say 'happy.'.
