Flashes of Humanity
I'll be the first to admit that parenting a 13 year old isn't my favorite.
Having said that, the children and I were at the store today and a lady came up to us to tell us how absolutely beautiful our youngest is. All three children were there but Rachael was the only one the lady commented upon.
I expected something nasty from my 13 year old...but I didn't get it. Instead, our son patted Rachael on the back and said, 'I told you you were the most beautiful girl in your grade!'
I suspect it's these flashes of humanity that keep us going through the teenage years!
Watch your children closely
so you notice those flashes of humanity
...for your own sake!

How nice that you had a great reaction from the 13 year old. It can hurt to be left out of a compliment at any age!
Yes. It can hurt but he took it well. It's a hard lesson for all of us to be gracious when others receive a complement isn't it? As always, thanks for your comment Sally.
