6 Steps to Weight Loss
A friend gave me about 15 issues of a woman's magazine recently and I was astounded to find that every single one of them espoused some diet or other and every single one was different. It's no wonder we're confused. Should we count calories, cut out carbs, drink special tea, count points, cut out meat, limit fruit, take diet pills, eat only gluten-free products...HELP!
I'm not a medical doctor nor a diet expert but here's what I know:
My friend, Yvonne, lost 80 pounds in the last 8 months through the support of an overeaters-anonymous-type of group. Way to go, Yvonne.
My friend, Vonnie, lost 40 pounds in 6 months through the Weight Watchers system of counting points...and has maintained it for 3 years. Way to go, Vonnie. My friend Tammy, also in Weight Watchers, has lost 25 pounds in 3 months. Way to go, Tammy.
My friend, Valerie, has lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks by cutting down portions and being firm with herself during emotionally-draining times. Way to go, Valerie.
I've lost 27 pounds in less than 3 months by cutting out gluten from my diet. Yeah me.
So here's some unsolicited advice from a non-medical, weight-challenged person:
1. See your doctor to make certain your weight gain isn't because of a medical issue (mine was).
2. Keep a list of everything you eat and what time you eat it...and be absolutely honest with yourself.
3. Analyze your list to see what you're doing that's not working out for you.
4. Determine whether you should join a weight-watchers program, a weight-support group, or go it alone. Be honest with yourself and do whatever you need to do to get results.
5. Throw out all the weight-loss articles you've gathered over the years.
6. Add some exercise to your schedule (I walk the dog each morning).
7. Be single-minded and determined....and start losing weight.
I wish you all great success.

These are great ideas when trying to lose weight.
Thank you DM. They seem to make more sense to me than many of the diets I read about.
